Synopsis:
From New York Times bestselling author and BookTok sensation Ana Huang comes a contemporary royal romance!

Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.

He has never once been tempted to break those rules…until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed.

Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her.

Because she’s his.

His princess.

His forbidden fruit.

His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses.

But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

And as she navigates the intricacies-and treacheries-of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have.

Her bodyguard.

Her protector.

Her ultimate ruin.

Unexpected and forbidden, theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom…and doom them both.

Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.

Twisted Games is the second book of the series and I don’t know why it took me so long to pick it up. It could’ve been because I don’t usually enjoy bodyguard romances and it might’ve taken me even longer to pick it up if my sister didn’t want to loan the book after I was done. I’m so glad I finally did decide to read it!

“But someone once told me we always end up where we’re meant to be, and this is where I’m meant to be. With you.”

Rhys Larsen became bodyguard after military and he had rules about clients, especially about not getting involved with their personal lives and in his five years as a bodyguard, he’d never once crossed his professional boundaries. That was before he met Bridget and he can’t help himself and get involved with hers.

Bridget is the princess of Eldorra, a small European kingdom. She wasn’t happy when her new bodyguard was a little more strict than her previous one but even with his broodiness, she can’t help but slowly fall for him.

I usually do not like time jumps but I think they were necessary in this book and I didn’t even notice them. They were important for Bridget and Rhys’ relationship growth. The princess and her bodyguard were so sweet and I didn’t even mind how slow burn they were since sometimes slow burns can feel too slow for me.

He did such incredible things for her, like planning indoor festivals to her just because she couldn’t go to actual one. She was more than a pretty face to him and he always believed in her. She on other hand was ready to fight for him even if their story was destined for a tragic ending. Before her, he had never loved or been loved.

All in all this slow burn age gap bodyguard romance was out of my comfort zone but I couldn’t stop reading and I don’t think there was a thing that annoyed me which is a rarely thing. I was also happy for the tiny crumbs we got from the couple for the first book, especially from Alex.
