Synopsis:
#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward’s “different, creative, dark, violent, and flat-out amazing”* Black Dagger Brotherhood series continues as a vampire warrior crosses the line between life and death…into a world of dark dreams and darker desires.

Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment has been a heartbroken shadow of the vampire leader he once was. Brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel, he fights again with ruthless vengeance, unprepared for a new tragedy. Seeing his beloved in dreams–trapped in a cold, isolated netherworld–Tohr turns to the angel Lassiter to save his former mate. The only way to rescue her is for Tohr to love another. As war with the lessers rages, and a new clan of vampires vie for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between an unforgettable past and a hot, passion-filled future. But can his heart let go and set all of them free?

“Life was short, no matter how many days you were granted. And people were precious, each and every one, no matter how many you were lucky enough to have in your life. And love… love was worth dying for. Worth living for, too.”

I think the last time I reread Lover Reborn I really appreciated the angst, so I rated it much higher but this time around I really had to think about the whole book and I had so many issues with it. I really don’t think Tohrment deserved Autumn and even though I love Xcor, I had to skip most of his scenes. Pretty much all of his scenes felt unnecessary.

To me, this book was more about healing than about romance. I think Tohr was still telling John that he’d never love anyone besides his dead shellan like few chapters before the end of the book. I wish I liked these two together more but he was pretty much using her to “free” Wellsie and hated the fact that he was even sexually attracted to Autumn, which I could live with if he didn’t act like it was her fault. I wish even if Tohr didn’t want to have conversions with her, he would have encourage her to talk to other people.

Tohr and Autumn both had to heal and I don’t think she would’ve been able to fell him as fast as she did if she didn’t think Tohr was someone who could never love her. In the end they figured things out but I wanted there to be more groveling after his freak out and I can’t help but feel like he would break up with Autumn in a heartbeat if he could be able to have Wellsie back.

John made me so annoyed at this book. He didn’t only cause unnecessary drama between him and Xhex but he acted like a little kid about Tohr and Autumn. I’m getting kind of sick of him mentioning how Wellsie was like his mom. I think they only knew for few months and it’s not like other female characters weren’t there for him, too. I just hated how mad he got about even the idea of Tohr moving on, even if he didn’t like it I wish he would’ve been supportive of Tohr possibly finding a way to be happy again instead of being suicidal.

My favorite scenes were between Xhex and Autumn. They were so cute and I loved how much both of them wanted, and tried to have a relationship.

All in all, like I said I don’t think Tohr deserved Autumn. She was too nice to be treated the way he treated her and she had zero backbone to stand up for herself.
