Synopsis:
She’s a romantic at heart, living in the most unromantic of worlds . . .

Nicknamed Sweet Abelli for her docile nature, Elena smiles on cue and has a charming response for everything. She’s the favored daughter, the perfect mafia principessa . . . or was.

Now, all she can see in the mirror’s reflection is blood staining her hands like crimson paint.

They say first impressions are everything . . .

In the murky waters of New York’s underworld, Elena’s sister is arranged to marry Nicolas Russo. A Made Man, a boss, a cheat—even measured against mafia standards. His reputation stretches far and wide and is darker than his black suits and ties. After his and Elena’s first encounter ends with an accidental glare on her part, she realizes he’s just as rude as he is handsome.

She doesn’t like the man or anything he stands for, though that doesn’t stop her heart from pattering like rain against glass when he’s near, nor the shiver that ghosts down her spine at the sound of his voice.

And he’s always near. Telling her what to do. Making her feel hotter than any future brother-in-law should. Elena may be the Sweet Abelli on the outside, but she’s beginning to learn she has a taste for the darkness, for rough hands, cigarettes, and whiskey-colored eyes. Having already escaped one scandal, however, she can hardly afford to be swept up in another.

Besides, even if he were hers, everyone knows you don’t fall in love with a Made Man . . . right?

This is a standalone forbidden romance.

The Sweetest Oblivion is a book I’ve been wanting to read awhile and I got it as a Christmas present from my sister. I was very exited to start this series since I need more “Touch her and you’ll die” books in my life.

“I swear to God, Elena, if I find out you’ve let some man touch you, I will deliver his hands to you in a box.”

The Sweetest Oblivion is a story about Nicolas who has arranged a marriage with Elena’s sister but he can’t help but be drawn to Elena. Nicolas is a 29- years old and youngest sitting don. He’s unremorseful killer but he has a soft spot for Elena. She didn’t like him when they met but she didn’t like the idea of him and her sister being a great match, either. I was a little bit disappointed by Elena’s past since it wasn’t that bad but it made her past seem so mysterious and I can’t believe no one else in the family has done the same.

I wasn’t in love with the romance from the beginning. I actually didn’t like the time while Nico was engaged with her sister but the writing was so good I couldn’t stop myself from reading and actually finished the whole book less than 24 hours after starting it. The miscommunication almost made me crazy but I love how this book doesn’t have any cheating on it. Nico’s possessiveness and protectiveness made Nico and Elena one of my favorite new book couples of 2021.

All in all though I really enjoyed the romance I didn’t like the book enough for it to deserve five stars. There were a lot of things that won’t probably make me reread the book for awhile.
