Bryce Quinlan used to light up Crescent City, partying all night in the clubs where the strict classes of angel, shifter, human and Fae merge intona sea of beautiful bodies.

And the a demon murdered her closest friends.

Two years later, when the supposed killer is behind bars but the ceimes start up again, the city’s leaders command Bryce to help investigate. They assign an enslaved fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, to make sure she does. But as Bryce fights to uncover the truth – and resist her attraction to the brooding angel who shadows her every step – she finds herself following a trail that leads deep into her own dark past.

“…There’s nothing wrong with a party girl. I don’t get why the world thinks there is…Its easier for me—when people assume the worst about what I am. It lets me see who they really are.”

I was very exited about this book when I first heard of it but then was disappointed with A Court of Frost and Starlight and Kingdom of Ash and thought that maybe I’ve grown out of Sarah J. Maas’ books. But then I saw Sophie @ Beware of the Reader absolutely love it, so course before I knew it I had already ordered it. But of course I knew that I couldn’t pick this book without buddy reading it (it’s one huge ass book OK and I was intimidated by it) so I asked in one of my discord groups and thankfully Jayati was all for it! You can check her review here.

Bryce is “half breed” since she’s half fae and half human. At first I kinda wished that she wasn’t aware of the world because I was confused af for the first many chapters but then she wouldn’t be her. Bryce is sassy and loyal for the fault. I just love how she didn’t let anyone tell her what to do but I was annoyed by some of her actions, like what she did before her friends got killed.

I saw some fanart about the romance and I was so ready to fall for it, even knowing that since it’s Sarah J. Maas book the heroine would probably have her endgame with someone else– but I never really liked them together? It was slow burn of slow burns but I never really saw them as more as friends. I did like how much they understood each other and there were few cute moments between the two.

Bryn was definitely my favorite character so far. I really liked how he was always there for her sister and I’m just really scared what will happen to him because of what oracles told him when he was thirteen. My second favorite character was Aidas.

All in all I expected more from the romance and while I liked the world I think the mystery took too much focus. I thought this book would’ve had more romance and no less since it’s adult instead of young adult.

  1. I completely agree! I really wanted more romance and couldn’t ship Bryce and Hunt and the sexual tension between them was mild at best.
I’m also really sad about Lehabab dying 😦 She was so much fun to interact with.

    1. I even enjoyed Feyre and Tamlin more than these two and I never shipped them together.

Me too. I was surprised how sad I was about her death since I didn’t care when TOG main character’s friend died. Can’t even remember her name atm 🙈
