What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

I mention wanting finish this series, so I can finally get to other Cassandra Clare books to Clo @ Cuppa Clo and we decided to buddy read it. I didn’t want to buy my own copy, though and couldn’t loan physical copy from a library, so I decided to get free two week membership from BookBeat even if I’m not big audio book fan and listen read the audio book at the same time. Also when I saw James Masters (aka Spike from my all time favorite show) I couldn’t not do it!

“Grief can be so bad you can’t breathe, but that’s what it means to be human. We lose, we suffer, but we have to keep breathing.”

I don’t know why but I just don’t love Emma and Julian together. It’s not like they’re not great together. They even had some very amazing quotes in this book but I just don’t ship them together.

I love Ty but he also annoyed me in this book. I couldn’t fault him for acting the way he did though after what happened in the last book. Still the whole Kit/ Ty thing was the most heartbreaking thing to me in this book. I felt so bad for Ty but also for Kit. He was ready to do anything for Ty and I loved seeing him being Watson to his Sherlock.

I think the character I can relate the most is Drusilla. She felt like an outsider in her family sometimes and just looked up to Ty. She’s pretty sick of everyone treating like she’s a child. I was waiting her to meet Ash in this book but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

“Christopher, family for me was never blood. It was always the family I chose. But it turns out it’s nice to have someone I’m related to in this world. Someone I can tell boring family stories to. Do you know about Will Herondale? Or James Herondale?”

How is it that after all these books I’m still ready to get hooked into even a tiniest Will Herondale mention? Especially when Jem told the story about hitting his parabatai once.

This was my favorite book of the series. We saw how different Julian can be and I actually prefer normal! Jules. Then we got to see more of these relationships and friendships. Queen of Air and Darkness made me both cry and laugh. I was glad to finally see not only Jem and Tessa or Clary ad Jace together in this book but also Simon and Isabelle and Magnus and Alec.
