Best YA of 2019

best ya book 2019

This is the first time I’m taking part of Blogmas. Bookending prompts just didn’t interest me and then I saw these prompts Sophie @ Beware The Reader had in her blog and decided to give few of them a try.

I decided not to only choose from books published in 2019 because I could probably count those books with one hand.
Today’s category is Young Adult.
And because I’m me I can’t only choose one book, but one of the books I chose is a graphic novel.
Defy Me By Tahereh Mafi

Defy Me is the fifth book of Shatter Me series and while some people think Tahereh should’ve stopped writing this series after the original trilogy I actually enjoy later books maybe more than the first three. It helps that we get more Warnette content. I started this series because people compared it to Klaroline and I’m so glad I continued it even if there was too much Adam in the first books.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Vol. 1 by Joss Whedon & Jordie Bellaire

My dreams were crushed when I heard how the originals Buffy comics ended (seasons 8-12). I had only read up to season 11 volume 1 so I still like to pretend volume 2 is how they ended. Anyway back to the point– I was so happy about this second chance for my beloved characters. I was in love months before I even read it because of art work I’d seen and even if we got some Spike/Cordelia and even Spike/Xander content but none of Spuffy content I still love the first volume so much.

What were your favorite young adult books from 2019?

  1. I just read Shatter Me this year, so I’m a bit behind. I already bought the next two books but haven’t gotten to read them yet. I’m so glad to hear you like the books beyond the original trilogy, though!
