FALL in love

FALL in love.png

This is second prompt by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads that I decided to do. I love romance and was planning to make a post about my least favorite romance tropes anyway, so here we go.

I’m listing in my favorite tropes some of my favorite books from that trope but in my least favorite trope I list some of the books why I dislike those tropes.

Autumn is for walks in the brisk air, drinking lattes, wearing matching scarves and hats, jumping in piles of leaves… wait! Is this sounding a little tropey to you? Let’s talk about some of our fave (and not so fave) romance tropes.

  • Enemies To Lovers – The growth! I just love it when characters go from hating each other, even trying to kill each other to falling in love.
    • Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
    • Lux by by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Soulmates – How can I not love romance where two people are destined to be together?
  • Virgin/ Innocent – I love books that have a hero or heroine that is a virgin or innocent and they are ether clueless about things or have just waited to meet the right guy/ girl.

Least Favorite
  • Love Triangles – This is so rarely done well. I can only name one love triangle I actually care about
  • Friends To Lovers – Mainly the ones where best friend doesn’t notice heroine until someone else shows interest
  • Playboy – I’m just so tired of these kind of male characters. There’s nothing attractive of someone sleeping around.
  • Rockstar romance – I don’t know why but this trope has never appealed to me. I don’t even have any books that made me dislike this trope.

Which tropes are your favorite and least favorite? Do you disagree with some of my picks?

  1. I love the Enemies to Lovers trope, but my favorite is guy with issues/saved by girl type stories. I think because I’m completely a “fixer” and want to fix everything. And yes- love triangles are not my thing and I have never read one that I liked.

    1. Guys with issues are great too! The only love triangle I like is Will/Tessa/Jem from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Both guys are awesome so you can’t help but root for both of them.

  2. There are few love triangles I’ve really cared about either (usually there’s one that I clearly root for all the way through, haha), but I’m with you on the enemies to lovers one–I like when there’s character development/growth!

  3. Will we ever stop loving enemies-to-lovers 😍😍 Yes, soulmates!! List that Black Dagger Brotherhood!! Yes, I so agree with you – friends-to-lovers is…a bit boring? I mean sometimes I can deal with friends to lovers if it’s written well.

    1. There are some friends to lovers I enjoy like Addicted to You series but I tend to like enemies to friends to lovers more, like in Bloodlines. I just don’t even feel tempted to start friends to lovers books unless someone tells me to and even then I don’t have high hopes for them.

      1. Enemies to friends to lovers is definitely the best one. I loved the one in Bloodlines 😁 I think it just depends on how the author writes it, but I’m definitely not a fan of the ‘friendzone’ friends to lovers.
