Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme in Goodreads, where you list your top 5 for the week’s chosen topic. You can check the group here for more discussions and topics. Top five Wednesday is still in summer holiday so I chose to go with old topic “Talk about your favorite ships that have a healthy side of angst. (definition: adj.: describes a situation or literary piece which contains dark, depressing, angry, and/or brooding emotions from the participating characters.)”
So many of my ships can be called angsty but I decided to go with only bookish ships. This post contains mild spoilers.
I haven’t started the second book yet but this couple definitely deserved a spot in this list. These two were best friends for years and even pretended to be in a relationship so people didn’t find out about their addictions. Lily and Loren tried to fight against their attraction towards each other but in no vain. Now they’re trying to fight against their addictions so they won’t destroy each other.
Christian and Anastasia have their ups and downs. Neither is expert in relationships since she’s his first real relationship and Ana was a virgin before meeting him. They have to get through his exes and need for dominance, her impulse to make him angry and there’s just a lot of angst in these books.
Gideon wanted Eva since the moment he saw her and after maybe saying a word for her even told her so and maybe if he would’ve known about her past he could’ve said it in a better way. Gideon can be very sweet but he also makes Eva loose her mind. They had their own share of angst like when Gideon freaked out after they had sex for the first time or when Gideon suddenly had more time for his ex than for her. It doesn’t help that Gideon refuses to sleep next to her after what happened in his sleep and it takes like forever for him to open up about his past.
Will can act like such a jerk most of this series but he has his reasons for acting that way. He really hurt Tessa the way he told her that she would never be able to have kids and when he finally shares his feelings it’s too late.
I think this is the only enemies to lovers ship in this list. Layla doesn’t need to pretend with Roth like everyone else in her life but that doesn’t make their relationship all about roses and butterflies. They’re supposed to be enemies since she was raised by warden and then Roth keeps things from her, making Layla to think that he doesn’t care about her.
What are some of your favorite angsty couples? Do you like any of these?
