This week’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is “Most Disappointing Reads of 2018” Unfortunately there’s always those kind of books that expected more of…
I’m a little embarrassed to say that I tried rea– that’s a lie since I was rereading these. I finished the first two books before I couldn’t take it no more. I remember them having way too much drama and that I only bought all of them because I wanted to see what happened. But I didn’t remember how toxic their relationship is– and I ship Spuffy so I rarely use the word toxic.
I found this one seriously lacking. Once again book one cheated me to buying the second book, thinking it would be as great as the first one. It was just were slow and left me confused. The last book was disappointing too but at least a little better than the second one.
After the awesomeness that was book one I couldn’t have been more disappointed. I loved Passenger so much and this one was so slow.
I didn’t care for Nicholas’ POV like at all and the only scenes I actually liked were when Etta was with Henry and when Etta and Nicholas finally reunited.
Sophia reminded me of Nesta and I couldn’t stand her. I know she has her reasons for acting like she does but just no.
I loved this series so much but the second book was so boring. I wanted to even some action to happen but no. That was too much to ask. You can read my review here.
These books are so hyped that I was sure I was going to love them. I couldn’t have been more wrong and wish I could forget they even exist. I ended DNF’ing Six of Crows in 2017 and I felt very accomplished when I finished Shadow and Bone in 2018. I think I would’ve left that unfinished too if it wasn’t for The Darkling.
What books were you disappointed with in 2018?
Sorry none of these quite lived up to expectations. I’ve never read anything by Leigh Bardugo – I just feel like it’s something I wouldn’t really enjoy.

Good call. I really thought I would since everyone was praising her writing skills but they just weren’t for me.

Ohhhh I love The Grisha, but nope nope nope Six Of Crows. Actually, Crooked Kingdom since Six Of Crows was fine. I heard so many mixed things about After but nahhhhh not gonna try.
My most disappointing read was When The Surface breaks by Louise O’Neill, along with Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian. Oh and The 100, The Hunger Games, Ready Play One, We Were Liars……

I actually like the 100. I’ve seen a lot of good things about Ash Princess but it didn’t sound like it was for me. The Hunger Games went downhill from book one and I don’t really get the hype of Katniss/ Peeta after finishing the third book. Peeta deserved better tbh.

I DNF’ed halfway into the first book 😂

I prefer the 100 books over the show tbh. I still need to finish s4

Actually I was talking about the hunger games, I DNF’ed The 100 after 50 pages already.

So much mood to this! I can relate to all of these. especially leigh bardugo and Stone Cold Touch. I honestly felt like SCT was a filler book for the first and last books. like you could skip it and not miss much.

Me too! It was like JLA tried to please everyone by doing what she did in book two but I think only hardcore Zayne fans liked it. I’m not even sure if I’m going to read the spin off unless it has some Roth mentions.

Exactly! and same. I don’t think im super pumped for the spin off cause I could care less about Zayne.

My friend is huge fan of him and she’s so exited and I’m like “but… Roth?” 😀

Thankfully I haven’t read any of these, but after DNFing Six of Crows you can best your ass I won’t touch Shadow and Bone with a 20 foot pole

YES YES YES! I am so with you on STC. I hope the spinoff has some Roth in it, otherwise I’ll be soooooo pissed! I need my Roth fix! And…listen, I get you with The Darkling thing. I loved him, even though he was a villain. I’m curious about SoC but…we’ll see.

I actually didn’t really like Passenger, so it sounds like I dodged a bullet on the second book 😂 totally agree about the Grisha trilogy; I barely finished the first and it only got worse from there (though I personally loved SoC). I got a lot better about DNFing books that weren’t catching my attention, but I remember that Young Jane Young & The Bird and the Blade were among those that I had high hopes for and was disappointed by 😕

Oof I love SoC but I read Shadow and Bone…a while back and like it was ok. But I just…I didn’t love it as much as I loved SoC. As for most disappointing read…probably Ocean of Secrets because I DNFed that one. The cover is gorgeous but wow was the story just…lacking in pacing and yeah such a shame >.>

I read the entire After series several years ago and even though I kind of hated each book as I read it, I also couldn’t stop myself. LOL It was like a train wreck I couldn’t look away from. The Grisha trilogy is so hyped and I finally read Shadow & Bone last year. I though it was… okay, but I don’t know if or when I’ll continue the series.

Agree about After. I don’t even know why I tried rereading it lol. I only gave shadow & bone one star so that series was a total miss for me.
