This week’s I Heart Characters topic is A Character I’m Thankful for, because…(Did you relate hard? Did they help out a favorite MC? Whatever you’re reason, we want to know about this character!)
This post contains some spoilers! You have been warned.
I decided to go with Jace Wayland because he made me love books. I had read a lot of books previously but The Mortal Instruments was the first book series I read and loved before seeing the movie or TV show first.
City Of Fallen Angels might’ve been even the first book I read in English. So not only did this series make me get into reading but it also got me to read books in English. There’s so many books that have never being translated to my mother language, so without realizing that I can read them also in English I would’ve never read books like Carry On, Shatter Me, ACOTAR, Throne Of Glass, Lux, The Lunar Chronicles etc.
The Mortal Instruments had many great characters but Jace was my favorite. I just loved his wit and how he tried to hide his feelings with his humor. I might not love him like I did over 10 years ago but I’m still thankful for him.
I don’t love him as much compared to how much I loved him when I was in ninth grade but without him I would’ve never read The Infernal Devices and fallen in love with Will Herondale.
I just love the whole Shadowhunter world. I’m actually currently rereading City Of Bones and hopefully some day soon I can finally start Lady Midnight. I just haven’t had the motivation yet since I’m not big fan of friends to lovers trope. I do want to know if my opinion to Clace, Malec and Sizzy has changed, or even to it’s characters.
“The boy never cried again, and he never forgot what he’d learned: that to love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed.”
Jace has so many last names but I prefer using the one he had when he was first introduced even though he isn’t really a Wayland. I don’t want to be too biased but I love that he’s a Herondale but I also love that he likes using Lightwood since they raised him and he sees Alec and Izzy as his siblings.
I love how he’d do anything for his siblings even though they’re not his blood. Not everyone have the luxury of having amazing family, so I love how he teaches us that blood doesn’t mean family.
Jace is a shadowhunter but he has more angel blood than most shadowhunters since Valentine Morgenstern experimented on him when his mother was still expecting him. This made him stronger and faster than other shadowhunters.
He’s very sarcastic and often acts without thinking first. He’s parabatais with Alec Lightwood, who often worries about him and watches Jace’s back so nothing happens to him.
Alec said nothing, but his grip on Jace’s hand tightened. “You don’t need to swear,” he said, and with his free hand touched the parabatai rune near his collarbone. “I know. I can feel it. I don’t feel like I’m missing a part of me anymore.”
“I felt it too.” Jace took a ragged breath. “Something missing. I felt it, even with Sebastian, but I didn’t know what it was I was missing. But it was you. My parabatai.”
Jace has same kind of belief about God as I do, since he believes God exists but just doesn’t care. Jace might be cocky and sometimes acts like he’s invincible but he still doesn’t acts like being faster than other make you less than him, unless you’re mundane of course.
Jace’s favorite food is Mu Shu Pig. He also likes fighting.
Jace really didn’t like it when Clary says that shadowhunters use magic. He and Alec got offended by this. Other things Jace dislikes are bergamot in his tea and cucumbers.
What do you think about Jace? What character are you thankful for?
