Top 5 Wednesday #10; Favorite Villains

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme in Goodreads, where you list your top 5 for the week’s chosen topic. You can check the group here for more discussions and topics. This week’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is “ Favorite Villains

So most of these are TV villains and I’m mostly mentioning villains that didn’t get redemption arcs. This post contains spoilers.

5. Sebastian Morgenstern (The Mortal Instruments)

“My name is Jonathan but everyone calls me Sebastian and I’m going to burn down the world.”

Sebastian is Clary’s big brother. He could’ve been good if not for the experiments his father did to him when he wasn’t even born yet. Being raised by his father didn’t help with things at all and he grew up to become a cold, heartless and bloodthirsty psychopath.

Jonathan was a very good liar and could pretend to be Sebastian Verlec in City of Glass who he had killed.

Jonathan’s biggest desire was to rule the world with Jace and Clary and not to be alone. He didn’t know that he had to earn company and love, so he tried to force it. He didn’t only want Clary to love him as a sister but as a lover too and even tried to rape her once.

4. Glorificus (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

“A slayer? Oh, God, please don’t tell me I was fighting a vampire slayer! How unbelievably common. If I had friends and they heard about this…”

How could I not add my favorite villain from Buffy to this list? Glorificus aka Glory was a goddess from a hell dimension. She was banished to Earth by other hell goddesses and had to share a body with a human. All she wanted was the key, so she could get back home.

Unlike most of Buffy’s villains Glory actually was part of the reason she died. I mean Glory’s followers opened the portal that ended up killing Buffy.

Glory was crazy powerful and I loved how she was a little crazy.

3. Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries)
“I could rip you to shreds and do my nails at the same time.”

Katherine Pierce lost her family when she was a teenager and run away from Klaus Mikaelson for 500 years. After that she did everything to survive; using and killing people.

Katherine deserved better than being obsessed over Stefan Salvatore of all people and dying by his hand while he was human. I still don’t get how writers made her queen of hell, brought her back for few minutes and then killed her by just making human! Stefan hold her.

Katherine should’ve been either redeemed or killed while getting her revenge against Salvatores. I’d have been glad with either result.

2. The Scourge of Europe (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel)

“Don’t be so glum, mate. The way you tell it, one Slayer snuffs it, another rises. I figure there’s a new Chosen One, getting all chosen as we speak. I’ll tell you what: if and when this new bird shows up, – I’ll give you first crack at her.”

The Scourge of Europe aka The Whirlwind is a group of vampires that include Darla, Angelus, Drusilla and Spike.

I didn’t really get as attached to Darla as other in this group. This was mainly because she was staked in season one of Buffy before brought back as a human in Angel.

I like Angel (Angelus with a soul) but I often find him pretty plain. Angelus on other hand is interesting character. He doesn’t really love anyone but I think deep down he loved Darla.

Angelus in twisted character with no redeeming qualities unless you put a soul inside of him and his whole character changes. Angelus wears leather pants, kills people and animals, stalks people and enjoys torturing.

I love how crazy and unpredictable Drusilla is. You can read here more about her.

It might be no surprise that I already loved Spike when he was evil. He can easily make plans to do whatever he desires but it’s completely different thing to follow them through because he’s so impatient. Spike is the youngest of this group but he’s the only one who has killed two slayers.

1. Malachai “Kai” Parker (The Vampire Diaries)

“Who names a kid Malachai? It’s like they expected me to be evil.”

I don’t really know why I love Kai so much but I just love how evil and funny he is. He knows that he’s a sociopath and he likes himself that way.

Kai Parker is a siphoner and he was treated like abomination by his family. His parents didn’t want him to become the leader of Gemini coven. Angered by this Kai started killing off his siblings.

“My family called me an abomination. It hurt my feelings.”

Kai almost became good after he merged with Luke but Bonnie was still angered by what he did to her in the prison world and traps him there again. Kai, of course, escapes back to the real world but this time he’s not just a siphoner. He’s also a Heretic (half vampire, half siphoner, so he still has his magic). Kai got over his feelings of remorse and seeks out revenge, including killing his remaining siblings, putting Elena in the coma until Bonnie dies.

What are some of your favorite villains? Comment below.

  1. Hmmm. I can’t think of any villains that I particularly like, you know? Its rare for me to like a villain but — OOH, does Adelina from The Young Elites count? If so, then I like her. hahaha.
