Top 5 Wednesday #6: Redemption Arcs

“Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme in Goodreads. You can check the group here for more discussions and topic.”

This week’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is “Redemption Arcs“. Someone in the group explained that it meant “a character who’s previously been an antagonist or even a villainous character gets a story arc which redeems them.”

1. Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)  — From slayer of slayers to saving the world. Sure, first he only helped because he was in love with a girl. With all the problems I have with his OOC behavior in Angel, I love that he chose to be a hero even without Buffy by his side.
2. Killian Jones (Once Upon A Time)  — Hook became a pirate after his brother died. Then he fell in love and lost her. Next century or two the only thing he wanted was revenge but through the series he changed into a hero.
3. Aaron Warner (Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi)  — Warner had a tough childhood and doesn’t really know how to show affection. He acts like a manipulative and cold in the beginning of the series, but shows affection towards Juliette.
4.Xcor (Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R Ward)  — He tried to kill Wrath II (the king) for a few times but after being healed by Layla (the fallen Chosen) he was struck with the Vampire’s mating instinct. Xcor wanted to become a king but gave it up for Layla.
5. Rhysand (ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas)  — Rhys did some questionable things while he pretended to be a bad guy but it was later all explained why he did, what he did.

  1. Rhys is definitely in a lot of people’s lists.I’m personally not in love with him though, I think he’s just a plain, unremdemtable annoying guy :”D

      1. Hahaha to be honest I’m not a huge fan of the series in general, I couldn’t get through the second one so I might be too quick to judge all the characters. That being said, I’m not a huge fan of Tamlin either 😀

      2. I’m not planning on continuing the series tbh. I still love many characters in the series but not as much as I hate Nesta. ACOFAS was painful already to read because of her. Do you like Throne Of Glass?

      3. I’m not so sure you’d like it since you think Rhys is unremdemtable. I don’t think Rhys even really did that bad things. I mean people forgive Damon in The Vampire Diaries tv show (can you see how much I dislike that guy? :D) and he did a lot of worse stuff than Rhys.
